Brain Freeze Lemonade

On one especially hot afternoon last month in Key West, my husband and I stopped by one of our favorite people-watching haunts, Rick’s on Duval Street and imbibed one of their new offerings, a refreshing summer cocktail, a frozen lemonade made with lemon-flavored “Deep Eddy” vodka.
Finally, a lemon cocktail that really tasted like fresh lemons!
This is my copycat version of this spirited lemon-flavored slushy concoction:

Start by making a simple syrup :1/3 cup of water, 1/3 cup granulated sugar and the zest from two lemons (fine shreds or minced). Cook until reduced to a syrup consistency. Let cool to room temp.
When ready to serve:
Fill blender or smoothie maker about 2/3 full of ice. Fill almost to the top with “Deep Eddy” Lemon-flavored vodka and pulse until smooth. Add 1/2 of your lemon simple syrup and pulse again to blend. (Taste, if not sweet enough add more syrup, & pulse to blend again.)
Serve in tall glasses with a lemon slice garnish & a straw.

Caution: Sip slowly to avoid the dreaded brain freeze:)
